Sustainability in hotels: bathroom equipment for achieving energy efficiency
- According to a UNWTO study, almost 80% of users prefer to opt for accommodations under sustainable practices and initiatives.
- Noken's equipment helps hotels to save water and energy, as well as obtaining efficient architecture certifications such as LEED and BREEAM.
Eco-sustainable tourism is booming. According to a study published by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), a third of travellers prefer sustainable tourist destinations, and eight out of ten stayed in accommodations that ensured energy efficiency. Therefore, it is the hotel’s responsibility to comply with these requirements, not only to meet the user's needs in relation to the commitment to ecology and recycling beyond their own homes, but also to meet the social cause and provide added value to the tourist offering.
Noken Porcelanosa Bathrooms is committed to protecting the environment. That is why it pushes for efficiency when designing its bathroom equipment. Toilets and bathroom faucets minimize energy consumption and reduce water consumption, achieving a significant reduction in the annual expenditure of these resources. Another advantage that Noken offers to hotels is its contribution to obtaining efficiency certifications. Its sustainable equipment helps the accommodation to achieve a higher score in systems such as Leed or Breeam, which certify sustainable hotels internationally.
Sustainable equipment for hotels: every drop is important
Most of Noken's research is aimed at achieving greater efficiency in the bathroom. Due to this work in R&D, the firm can offer taps and sustainable toilets for bathrooms for hotels.
Speaking of energy water savings, Noken offers its ECO double toilet flushing system, which allows for greater or lesser water flushing according to the user's needs. About 3-6 liters or 3-4.5 litres speaking of the most environmentally friendly, and this system is available both in floor mounted designs and in wall hung toilets with a built-in frame. With this system, up to 56% of water can be saved.
Another innovation by Noken that contributes to saving water are the ECO taps. Thanks to its flow limiter and eco-efficient aerator, an atmosphere in which water and air coexist to achieve water and energy savings, as well as a lower CO2 emission, is created. The cold opening system, available for the Nk Concept, Round and Forma taps, also saves energy, due to the fact that water comes out cold by default and it is only heated when deemed necessary.
Speaking of energy consumption, Noken recommends energy-efficient shower heads, such as Nk-Logic or Round, whose flow limiter saves water and energy alike, since the amount of water needed to be heated is less.
The thermostatic taps are also more efficient than the shower single lever mixer tap. Water comes out a lot faster, and at the temperature chosen by the user, therefore avoiding unnecessary wastage. In relation to the Mood and Pure Line digital taps, the temperature selection is not only more effective, but also precise. As well as that, choosing a slow or fast water flow is possible.
Recycling is another of the sustainable guidelines by Noken. The toilets are reusable, since the faulty parts in the manufacturing process are returned to the cycle to get an efficient raw material use. The cisterns are also made of recyclable material. When the useful life of the product is finished, the material is reused in new cycles of production.
Leed and Breeam, certified sustainability for hotels
Noken contributes to the certification of sustainable hotels. This firm collaborates with its ECO bathroom equipment to comply with international guidelines, such as Leed and Breeam, Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design and Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, respectively. These systems with points or stars measure criteria such as: innovation, the materials and the efficient energy and water use in order to give hallmark scales.
Diverse global developers and world class hotels have already worked with Porcelanosa Bathrooms in relation to the compliance of these certificates, both in efficiency and savings and the added-value for its accommodations.
